Today, April 28, 2026, marks the United Nations’ World Day for Safety and Health at Work. The purpose of this awareness day is to highlight that occupational health and safety culture worldwide should respect every individual’s right to a safe and healthy working environment. At Westenergy, promoting occupational safety and health is a priority, and we participate in the Zero Accidents Forum of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.

Westenergy’s management system achieved the international ISO/IEC 27001 information security certificate in March 2026. The certification demonstrates that our information security management system meets the highest international standards and that we handle information systematically, securely, and with a risk based approach.

Westenergy’s carbon capture project took important steps forward last year. The pre‑engineering work related to the construction of the carbon capture plant, the so‑called Civil FEED phase (Front-End Engineering Design), was completed in the summer of 2025. As a result, the municipality of Mustasaari granted a construction permit for the plant in December 2025.

Westenergy has joined the CO2 Value Europe association that was founded in 2017. The association’s goal is to be an ambassador for carbon capture and utilization (CCU). Through their work they aim to help develop a viable ecosystem for CCU on an industrial scale. To be part of this network supports Westenergy’s vision of waste-to-energy sector being a part of sustainable carbon recycling.

Over the past year, we have focused particularly on the reliability of our operations as well as the planning and development of carbon-neutral energy production.

The pre-planning of the carbon capture plant has advanced. The project team worked intensively at the HAZOP workshop, going through the entire plant solution during a week in Graz, Austria.
2.9.2024
On August 13, 2024, the Municipal Council of Korsholm approved the change of local detailed plan for the Westenergy area, allowing activities related to carbon capture and utilization to be located on the Westenergy site.

In 2023, Westenergy continued its determined efforts towards carbon-neutral energy production and sustainable circular economy.
11.7.2024
Westenergy Ltd, CPC Finland Oy and Prime Capital AG have announced that they have selected the international technology company Andritz AG to carry out the preliminary design of the future carbon dioxide capture plant. Based on the material prepared during this design phase, a final investment decision can be made, and the implementation of the new plant can begin.
