Service stop at Westenergy’s waste-to-energy plant

Service stop started at Westenergy's waste-to-energy plant on Saturday the 15th of April when the plant was shut down. All the maintenance and repair work and inspections that cannot be carried out when the plant is in operation, are carried out during the service stop.

Ekorosk becomes one of Westenergy’s owner companies

Westenergy and Ekorosk have signed a contract that makes Ekorosk one of Westenergy's owner companies. The contract further expands Westenergy's operation area, and now Westenergy's operation area covers over 20 percent of the municipalities in Finland. Annually, approximately 200 000 tonnes of waste is refined into electricity, heat and renewable materials in Westenergy's Waste-to-Energy plant.

From waste-to-energy to a carbon sink?

Westenergy launched a set of research projects in 2019, aiming to explore new business opportunities for waste-to-energy plants and solutions to development challenges in the waste-to-energy sector in accordance with company’s strategy. The carbon-neutral energy production project aims to study how a waste-to-energy plant could work as a carbon sink and how the different carbon capture systems fit together with the existing process.

Westenergys annual report has been published

Year 2019 was eventful and successful year for Westenergy. The installation of the flue gas scrubber was successful and the projects in circular economy progressed. Furthermore, the district heat production at the plant reached a record amount.

District heating for the whole Vaasa area from Westenergy

Westenergy is the sole district heat facility running at the moment at Vaasa region. We produce 100 % of the heating needed by the customers of Vaasan Sähkö.

Westenergy does not take any visitors for the time being

The healt and safety of our workers, partners and visitors at our plant are of fundamental importance to us, and therefore we have considered thoroughly the visit procedures at Westenergy in light of the current situation.

Westenergy aims at carbon-neutral energy production by 2030

Westenergy has launched a circular economy project in co-operation with the University of Vaasa's research platform in energy and sustainable development, VEBIC. The project aims at identifying the best applicable technology for Westenergy for capturing carbon dioxide and outlines the possibilities for storing and utilising CO2. The Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy has granted a subsidy of 100 000 euros for the first phase of the project.
