Westenergy refines waste into district heat, electricity and recovered materials.
According to the United Nations, governments, employees and employers alike can all play a role in ensuring that everyone is provided with a healthy and safe working environment that respects individuals’ rights, responsibilities and obligations, and where prevention is regarded as the most important principle. At Westenergy, the objective of occupational safety is to ensure a safe working environment both for our personnel and for external parties working at our plant site. Through our operations, we continuously strive to prevent occupational accidents and health risks, and to improve the working environment and conditions.
We have invested systematically in the development of occupational safety ever since the establishment of the plant. Maintaining a high level of safety has for a long time been a significant positive challenge to which our entire organization is committed. We participate in the Zero Accidents Forum of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, and Westenergy has been awarded one of the forum’s highest level classifications for several years. In 2025, Westenergy reached Level 2: Approaching world’s forefront of occupational safety. Westenergy’s safety culture has been determinedly developed, for instance, with the help of so-called safety minutes and safety rounds and by investing in personal protective equipment.

Zero accidents forum is a network of workplaces coordinated by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. The aim of the forum is to help the member organisations improve their health and safety and share good practices among the companies. Zero accidents forum grants annually ratings to companies based on their success in developing health and safety issues.
