New possibilities for Westenergy – now a part of the European network for carbon capture and utilization

Westenergy has joined the CO2 Value Europe association that was founded in 2017. The association’s goal is to be an ambassador for carbon capture and utilization (CCU). Through their work they aim to help develop a viable ecosystem for CCU on an industrial scale. To be part of this network supports Westenergy’s vision of waste-to-energy sector being a part of sustainable carbon recycling.

HAZOP workshop provided valuable insights for Westenergy’s carbon capture project

The pre-planning of the carbon capture plant has advanced. The project team worked intensively at the HAZOP workshop, going through the entire plant solution during a week in Graz, Austria.

The change of local detailed plan for the Westenergy area is an important part of the preliminary planning for the carbon capture project

On August 13, 2024, the Municipal Council of Korsholm approved the change of local detailed plan for the Westenergy area, allowing activities related to carbon capture and utilization to be located on the Westenergy site.

Large-scale carbon capture at Westenergy advances

Westenergy Ltd, CPC Finland Oy and Prime Capital AG have announced that they have selected the international technology company Andritz AG to carry out the preliminary design of the future carbon dioxide capture plant. Based on the material prepared during this design phase, a final investment decision can be made, and the implementation of the new plant can begin.

Westenergy Supports the BotH₂nia Hydrogen Valley Project

BotH₂nia Hydrogen Valley aims to become a leading hydrogen area by 2030, with a total investment commitment of 3.6 billion euros. The broad collaboration of project developers, global and local companies and research institutions support Finland’s transformation in becoming one of Europe’s leading H₂ and derivatives producers, creating energy independence and security in the region and supporting European energy sovereignty.

Westenergy has officially signed the Antwerp Declaration for a European Industrial Deal.

Westenergy, CPC Finland and Prime Capital plan a large-scale carbon capture plant

The parties entered into an agreement for the joint development, construction and operation of a carbon capture unit in the municipality of Mustasaari, Finland. The unit will capture CO2 from the flue gas generated by the existing Westenergy plant. The captured CO2 will be liquefied, and a large fraction will be transported to Kristinestad where it will be utilised at Prime Capital´s and CPC´s power-to-x site. The carbon capture operations will be managed by Westenergy. The total value of the investment is approximately EUR 138 million and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has granted a total of EUR 20 million of energy investment aid for the project.
