Westenergy refines waste into district heat, electricity and recovered materials.
Year 2023 was eventful and partially challenging for Westenergy, with the energy transition and changes in the waste markets also reflecting on our operational environment. However, we succeeded to maintain a high usability rate of 94.5 %, and we produced 386 gigawatt-hours of district heating and 82 gigawatt-hours of electricity.
One of our most significant achievements in 2023 was the progress of our carbon capture project: we signed a letter of intent with CPC Finland Oy and Prime Capital AG and founded the project company ECCU Oy to advance the project. Once built, the carbon capture project will be one of the first of this scale in the world, significantly reducing our plant’s carbon footprint and promoting the development of the circular economy in Europe. Our goal is to capture and refine carbon dioxide for beneficial use, particularly in the production of synthetic fuels. In the future, we continue to invest even more in carbon capture, environmental protection and innovative circular economy solutions.
