Westenergy refines waste into district heat, electricity and recovered materials.
The project unites the hydrogen development on Finland’s west coast, focusing on issues such as hydrogen transportation, safety, and the development of business models. Local energy companies in Pori, Vaasa, Kokkola, and Oulu, as well as international companies like ABB, Danfoss, Hitachi Energy, and Wärtsilä, are part of this collaboration.
BotH₂nia Hydrogen Valley will achieve a projected annual production capacity by implementing 39.4 GW of wind power and 720 MW of electrolysis capacity, which is estimated to include 99 kt/a of hydrogen, 86.5 kton of eMethane, 64.2 tons of eMethanol, and 220,000 kt/a of renewable ammonia. 883 GWh of waste heat will be recovered for district heating networks, and 64.2 t/a of natural carbon dioxide will be used in five of the eight value chains.
Westenergy supports the BotH₂nia Hydrogen Valley project, which promotes the region’s carbon neutrality goals, reduces carbon dioxide emissions, and supports environmentally friendly steel production. The project is expected to create 10,000 jobs and bring significant investments and innovations to the region.
BotH₂nia Hydrogen Valley serves as an example in Europe, highlighting the role and business opportunities of hydrogen, and connects Finland’s hydrogen market with the rest of Europe to ensure energy independence.
